Dr. David Godfrey, a Physician at Glaucoma Associates of Texas

Dr. Arvind Neelakantan (Neel) joined Glaucoma Associates in the summer of 2007, marking our 25th year in practice serving the Dallas-Ft. Worth metroplex and the surrounding areas.

He received his medical degree in 1989 from the University of Bombay in India graduating at the top of his class. He has since then completed ophthalmology residencies at the University of Bombay in India, the University of Glasgow in the United Kingdom and most recently at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Dr. Neel is extensively trained in glaucoma, having completed clinical glaucoma fellowships at the prestigious Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, FL (rated #1 US News & World Report rankings) and at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, England. He also worked as a post-doctoral glaucoma fellow at the University of Florida in Gainesville, during which time he was awarded a National Eye Institute (NEI) travel grant for his work on wound healing and glaucoma surgery. His research interests include pharmacological optimization of outcomes after glaucoma surgery, developing newer and safer surgical techniques to treat glaucoma, perimetry and optic nerve head imaging.

Dr. Neel has presented numerous papers at major academic meetings and has published extensively in peer-reviewed publications. He has contributed to textbook chapters and is an invited reviewer for many ophthalmology journals. He is deeply interested in training the next generation of eye surgeons and currently also serves as Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.

He is a member of several professional societies including the American Glaucoma Society, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Neel enjoys spending his free time in the company of his wife and son. He loves to travel around the world, enjoys outdoor activities, running half-marathons and classic rock music.
