Shivani S. Kamat, MD Biography
Shivani S. Kamat, MD is a board-certified ophthalmologist and surgeon who is fellowship-trained to provide the latest in glaucoma care. She joined the GAT family in August 2020.
Dr. Kamat is a native Floridian and completed much of her early education there. She had a full academic scholarship to the University of Florida where she was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and graduated summa cum laude. She continued her medical education and internship at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Dr. Kamat then completed her ophthalmology residency in Chicago, IL at Loyola University, where she won awards for both teaching and patient care. From there, she went on to complete her glaucoma fellowship in Boston, MA at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary at Harvard University.
After completing her fellowship, Dr. Kamat joined the teaching faculty at the world-renowned University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center, where she brought advanced glaucoma surgical techniques to many grateful patients. Among her many leadership roles while on faculty, she served as the co-Director of the Glaucoma Fellowship, the Medical Director of Ophthalmology at Kellogg Eye Center’s largest and busiest satellite location, and led the planning committee for Continuing Medical Education for both staff and physicians.
After 5 years of Michigan winters, Dr. Kamat and her husband decided to move closer to family here in Dallas and she has fully embraced Texas as her new home! In her free time, Dr. Kamat enjoys reading, working out, traveling, and playing with her two dogs.
